Gary P. Johnson - Chair
Gary P. Johnson is an attorney in private practice in Colorado since 1981. He has been involved with The Initiative since 1994 when he became the legal advisor for The Initiative. He has been the President of the Board of Directors since 2010.
Eric Lucas - Treasurer
Eric was tasked with rebranding a local community organization during a Branding and Promotion MBA class. Eric has always had a passion for assisting underserved and marginalized communities, and when he stumbled across The Initiative, he instantly fell in love. At the end of his course, Eric saw that there was a marketing director volunteer position available and applied. Eric utilized his marketing and design skills to give The Initiative a facelift, promote the organization’s brand through social media, redesign the website, and develop a Safe House Business Plan for victims of domestic violence living with a disability.
As a Board Member, Eric will offer his skills in strategic planning, business, and humanitarian efforts to help The Initiative spread its wings. Eric has been the Treasurer of the Board of Directors since November 2015.
David E. Henninger has worked in the nonprofit sector since 1973, as the executive director of Bayaud Enterprises, Inc. (Nee- Bayaud Industries) which has been in operation since May of 1969 creating jobs for thousands of persons with disability. Bayaud serves over 1000 people a year and currently employs over 180 individuals with an operating budget of $8.2 million.
He obtained a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Administration from the School of Business at the University of San Francisco and pursued doctoral studies in public administration with an emphasis on nonprofit management at the University of Colorado/Denver.
Jon is the owner of Colorado Real Estate School. His lovely wife/best friend of 42+ years, son and daughter-in-law own him. Other owners of Jon include his two grandchildren and various foster children. His love for his family informs his desire to give back and his past community efforts focused on open space preservation and youth sports. As a former office neighbor of The Initiative, he became familiar with the people and mission of the organization and began participating in our annual Holiday event. Touched by the stories of the people he met, he eagerly jumped at the opportunity to expand on his involvement with the organization. He fully expects to be owned by us as well.
Renee Sitler lived in the Englewood, CO area most of her life. She has been married to her husband for 45 years and has 3 children and 9 grandchildren. For over 35 years, Renee worked for an insurance company in the insurance claims department. She learned about The Initiative from the Director of COVA, and has been part of the Initiative Board for 10 years. For Renee, it has been an honor to serve.
Ashlee has over 20 years of extensive experience in community service, including mentoring, counseling, teaching, coordinating, group support meetings and creating programs. She has fourteen years of professional experience in presenting and training large communities within the hospitality, customer service, and sales industries. She also brings to The Initiative over ten years of administrative and managerial experience. In the five years that Ashlee has been with The Initiative, she has been responsible for direct service, data collection, grant management, volunteer coordination, presentations, and trainings. She focused her studies on Sociology and Psychology with special emphasis in Multi-Cultural studies.
As the Executive Director, she provides strategic leadership and vision to The Initiative and ensures achievement of its goals for program development, financial stability, and community engagement. Ashlee manages the human and financial resources for The Initiative and is responsible and accountable for all aspects of its operation.
